A special meeting of the Yates County Legislature early next month to set a public hearing on a proposed local law to establish a residency requirement for Yates County Public Defender.

The proposed local law would supersede the provisions of the New York State Public Officers Law to allow job applicants from outside the county to vie for positions at the public defender’s office.

The August 5th special meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Legislative Chambers at the Yates County Office Building in Penn Yan before the monthly Legislature meeting.
