Two Penn Yan Residents Injured Following Two-Car Collision

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 14A at Havens Corners Road in Benton on Tuesday.

According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, a westbound vehicle on Havens Corners, driven by 17-year-old Raynne Shingler of Penn Yan, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a truck traveling south, operated by 45-year-old Timothy Marcellus, also of Penn Yan. Both Marcellus and a passenger in Shingler’s vehicle, 17-year-old Evelyn Harvey, were extricated from the vehicles and transported to area hospitals for evaluation. Shingler was not injured and was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Benton Fire Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, Yates County Ambulance and Yates County Office of Emergency Services.
