A person holds a landline phone receiver, illustrating the concept of telephone communication often associated with phone scams.

Another phone scam to tell you about that involves the caller pretending to be a member of a local law enforcement agency who is threatening arrest if the victim doesn’t send them money.

The Ithaca Police Department tells us this latest scam has the perpetrators using its phone number as a way to scam money from area residents. The Department wants to reassure residents it will never contact anyone and ask them to send any amount of money under the threat of arrest.

If you receive a call like this, you’re advised to hang up immediately and reach out to the Ithaca Police Department to verify and report the incident.
