Steuben County Ranked Best Place for Deer Hunting in 2024

Steuben County was the best place in New York to harvest deer in 2024.

According to 2024-25 harvest estimates from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, hunters in Steuben County harvested 15,595 whitetail deer, more than any other county in the state. The second-highest deer take was in Chautauqua County, which saw 8,895 deer killed. Rockland County saw the fewest deer harvested, with only 259 being taken during the season.

The neighboring counties of Schuyler and Yates saw 3,723 and 4,440 deer taken, respectively.

In total, hunters took an estimated 223,304 during the 2024-25 hunting season.
