Soldiers and Sailors Hospital Auxiliary Continues to Honor Military

Bronze memorial plaques honoring Yates County WWI soldiers and sailors stand on a brick path outside a hospital.
Memorial plaques dedicated to Yates County soldiers and sailors who served in World War I are displayed outside the Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, erected in 1924.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan is a community hospital that was built and named by its founders in the years following World War I to commemorate those from Yates County and the region who served in our nation’s military.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary continues that tradition with the annual “Remember and Honor Those Who Served” initiative. For a contribution of $10.00 or more, individuals, families, and organizations can request to have the name of a service man or woman placed on the “Honor Roll” boards displayed in the hospital lobby from Memorial Day, through Flag Day, Independence Day, and, finally, Veterans Day. Each donation represents a gift of honor, shared remembrance, and appreciation.

To participate in this remembrance program, mail a check payable to Soldiers and Sailors Auxiliary, and include the name of the service man or woman, indicating whether it is in honor or in memory, to: Loree MacKerchar, 300 North Ave., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

All proceeds from this project will be used by the Auxiliary to support the purchase of new equipment for the Emergency Department at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.
