Rescue crews were summoned to Seneca Lake Tuesday afternoon after Yates County 9-1-1 received a phone call from a concerned resident in Dresden who could no longer see a Kayaker who was out on the lake before a storm passed through.

The Branchport Keuka Park Dive Team, along with Himrod and Dresden firefighters responded to the scene with their equipment and the U.S. Navy sent a boat from its Sonar Test Facility to try to find the kayaker.

A short time later, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office received word that the kayaker had safely returned to their home in Dresden and the search was called off.

Penn Yan Ambulance also responded to the scene on Tuesday.
