Schuyler County emergency officials are reminding residents to stay fire-safe this holiday season as the annual “Keep the Wreath Blue” campaign gets underway.

The Schuyler County Emergency Management Office, in partnership with all county fire departments, kicked off this year’s campaign on Friday. As part of the effort, local fire departments display wreaths decorated with blue lights. If a preventable fire occurs during the holiday season, one of the blue lights is changed to red.

Officials say the wreaths serve as a simple but powerful visual reminder to take extra care with common holiday fire risks, including cooking, candles, and electrical decorations.
