Prior to its monthly meeting in August, the Yates County Legislature will hold a public hearing on a local law that would benefit the county’s senior citizens who are property owners. County Administrator Nonie Flynn says the county wants to increase the income limit for low-income senior exemptions that would be increasing their exemptions on their property tax bill assessment up to fifty percent.
“If approved, qualified seniors would see it take effect with the January 2025 county and town tax bill,” Flynn told Finger Lakes News Radio. “Property owners 65 years and older would apply for this exemption through their town assessor and they would have to apply by March of next year.”
