The clerk and highway superintendent positions in the town of Potter will now be appointed.

Voters approved both propositions in a special election that took place on Tuesday. The proposition to make town clerk an appointed position passed 82 to 57 and the highway superintendent proposition passed 78 to 61.

When proposing the changes, town officials said that the increasing complexity of these roles requires qualified candidates and that appointments would ensure the necessary expertise. The Yates County Personnel Office would first approve applicants before Town Board interviews.
