Police and State Officials Raid Two Illegal Pot Shops

A New York State Office of Cannabis Management sign on a window warns a business to stop illegal activity and states 'ILLICIT CANNABIS SEIZED'.
An official notice from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management is posted on a business window in Ithaca, indicating illegal cannabis activity and seizure.

Two Ithaca smoke shops were raided by police and state officials for allegedly selling marijuana without a license.

The Ithaca Voice reports the New York State Office of Cannabis Management searched the stores on the Commons Tuesday afternoon. Illegal products were seized and official signs from the Office of Cannabis Management were hung in their storefronts.

Last week, Governor Hochul announced the launch of a statewide crackdown on unlicensed cannabis stores.

The state considers Ithaca as part of the Southern Tier, so Ithaca has one official state marijuana dispensary. That store opened in March.  Tomorrow the state will announce the first pot licenses for the Finger Lakes Region.
