Fall colors are picking up across the Finger Lakes and nearby regions.

Watkins Glen is leading the way with 65% of leaves changing, showing muted reds, oranges, and browns with significant leaf drop. In the Finger Lakes, Canandaigua is up to 40% color change with bright red and orange leaves, while Penn Yan is seeing 35% change with a mix of reds, oranges, and yellows.

According to reports from I LOVE NY volunteers, here’s a snapshot of foliage progress by county:

Cayuga County:

  • Moravia and Locke: 30% color change, showing burnt orange leaves
  • Auburn: 20% change, mostly yellow

Ontario County:

  • Canandaigua: Up to 40% change, bright red and orange hues
  • Farmington: Less than 5% change

Schuyler County:

  • Watkins Glen: 65% change, muted red, orange, and brown leaves, with significant leaf drop

Seneca County:

  • Waterloo: 15% change, bright touches of red, purple, and gold
  • Seneca Falls: 15% change, mix of muted fall colors

Steuben County:

  • Bath, Corning, Hammondsport, Hornell: 30% change, shades of red, orange, and yellow

Tompkins County:

  • Ithaca and Trumansburg: 20% change, swaths of gold with emerging red and orange

Wayne County:

  • Lyons: 25% change, primarily yellow with hints of orange and red

Yates County:

  • Penn Yan: 35% change, featuring a blend of reds, oranges, and yellows

Watkins Glen stands out as one of the fastest-changing locations in the state, making it a prime destination for fall foliage enthusiasts this weekend.
