A man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a boat crash on Canandaigua Lake Saturday evening on East Lake Road in Yates County.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene just before 8 o’clock. Witnesses told authorities that the boat struck the shoreline, ejecting the driver, identified as 41-year-old Benjamin Cramer, onto the shore. He suffered serious injuries and was receiving aid from bystanders, including a doctor who resides in the area, when emergency crews arrived. Because the location of the accident was in an area that an ambulance could not get to, Cramer had to be transported to a nearby dock by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Boat and loaded into an awaiting ambulance.

Cramer, was first taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further treatment.

Emergency responders from the Middlesex Fire Department, Middlesex Ambulance, Cheshire Fire, Rushville Fire, Yates County Marine Patrol, and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
