The City of Ithaca has named Deputy Chief Michael Moody as the new Acting Chief of the Ithaca Fire Department.

Moody, a nearly 20-year veteran of the department, steps into the role following the retirement of longtime Fire Chief Rob Covert.

Covert, who led the department through the opening of the city’s all-electric East Hill Fire Station, has moved on to a new position as Deputy State Fire Administrator with the New York State Fire Commission.
