The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of threatening emails sent to multiple local schools, as well as to county employees, elected officials, and financial institutions.

Sheriff Derek R. Osborne says the office is working closely with local law enforcement and the FBI to determine the source of the threats, which have also been reported in several other New York counties.

“Our top priority is the safety of our students, educators, and community members,” Osborne said. “We are maintaining open communication with our school districts and law enforcement partners as this situation develops.”

Out of caution, additional security measures are being implemented at schools and for individuals named in the emails. The Sheriff’s Office says it will continue providing updates as more information becomes available.
