A Cattaraugus County college professor is running for Congress in New York’s 23rd District. Aaron Gies, a theology professor at St. Bonaventure University, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2026 midterm elections.

Gies, who also co-manages a nonprofit vegetable farm with his wife, says his campaign will focus on education, service, and community development. He’ll challenge Republican incumbent Nick Langworthy, who’s represented the district since 2022.

New York’s 23rd District includes much of the Southern Tier, including parts of Schuyler and Steuben counties.
