Fatal House Fire in Schuyler County Under Investigation

A tragic fire in the Village of Odessa early Thursday morning claimed the life of a 22-year-old resident.

The Schuyler County 911 Center received a report of a structure fire at 204 College Avenue around 4:37 a.m. Deputies assisted fire units from Odessa, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, Horseheads, and Newfield in battling the fully involved fire. Beaver Dams and Community Fire Departments stood by to cover other calls in the county.

Authorities confirmed that 22-year-old Brendyn Hammond was inside the home at the time and did not survive.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, investigators from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Schuyler County Emergency Management, and the Sheriff’s Office remained on scene as the investigation continues.
