An empty classroom at Bradford School in upstate New York, featuring student desks and patriotic flags, has been used to illustrate local news stories.

Thursday is a big day for the Bradford School District. Residents will vote on a new mascot.

Bradford is one of the New York Schools that has to change its current mascot of the Braves after the New York State Board of Regents ruled that schools must refrain from using names, images, or mascots that reference Native American cultures.

When residents vote between 1 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday they will have three choices: Bears, Blazers, and Bobcats.  Superintendent John Marshall says students and staff will vote during the school day.

Bradford initially attempted to retain the Braves mascot but was unsuccessful.
