An empty classroom at Bradford School in upstate New York, featuring student desks and patriotic flags, has been used to illustrate local news stories.

One of the last school districts in the region forced by the state to change its Braves mascot due to its reference to Native American cultures has unveiled its new mascot.

With 47 percent of the vote, Bradford’s new mascot is the Bobcats. The change will go into effect on July 1st. The two other options for residents, students, and staff to choose from were Bears and Blazers.

Bradford initially attempted to retain the Braves mascot but was unsuccessful.
