Body Discovered During Early Morning House Fire in Tompkins County

A house in Tompkins County shows extensive damage following a fatal early morning fire.

Firefighters discovered a body inside of a home while battling an early morning fire in Tompkins County.

New York State Police and multiple fire companies were dispatched to a home on Asbury Road in Freeville at around 4 o’clock. Troopers say firefighters located one person deceased inside of the home.

Fire Departments that responded included Lansing Fire Department Inc., Groton Fire Department, Freeville Fire Department, McLean Fire and Rescue, Varna Volunteer Fire Co., Cayuga Heights Fire Department, and Tompkins Airport Fire Rescue. State Fire is also on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. State Police said more information will be released once available.
