Families in South Bristol can once again enjoy the town playground following a major renovation project that has transformed the facility and expanded its accessibility to children up to age 12.
Town officials announced the reopening this week, highlighting a comprehensive upgrade designed to create a safer, more attractive, and more enjoyable space for local families.
The renovation was overseen by Town Councilperson Chris Abraham and the Buildings and Grounds Committee, which coordinated a series of practical and aesthetic improvements to modernize the playground.
Town officials also credited Highway Superintendent Jim Wight for his role in the project, including the removal of old playground equipment and the replacement of mulch retention boards.
In addition, the town recognized former Councilperson Jim Strickland for helping champion the project and securing its inclusion in the town budget.
While the playground is now open, additional improvements are still planned. Town officials say upgrades to signage and landscaping are in the works to further enhance the area.
The town also announced plans for an official dedication ceremony on August 8. The event will coincide with the birthday of Gamaliel Wilder, founder of South Bristol, and will celebrate both the community’s history and the completion of the playground improvements.
