An automated external defibrillator (AED) is housed in a red wall-mounted cabinet, ready for emergency use.

They usually give life-saving instructions over the phone, but Monday night, when an employee at the Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center suffered cardiac arrest while on duty, her colleagues sprang into action and saved her life.

One person performed CPR, another went out in the hallway to grab the AED, and a third called for the ambulance.

The employee was airlifted to Rochester General Hospital, where she is reportedly responding well and is currently in recovery.
