An ambulance responds to an emergency at night, its lights blurring with motion.

A 16-year old was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Canandaigua.

Police say the accident occurred just after 6:30p when the teenage bicyclist abruptly entered a crosswalk on North Main Street near Howell Street and was hit by a pick up truck.

The teen was taken by Canandaigua Emergency Squad to Mercy Flight, who then transported them to Strong due to the indication of a head injury. They were not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the truck was fully cooperative and not ticketed.

Police are reminding everyone about the importance of wearing a helmet while biking and state it’s best to walk, not ride, bikes across streets even when in a crosswalk.
