Harmful Algal Blooms tend to increase in late summer into the fall.

Tony Shelton with the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association says the group is prepared to keep the public informed

“One of the primary things we try to do is alert people to the hazards of these blooms, to try and plan their activities so they are not subject to some of the toxins they produce.”

The organization also has volunteers monitor the lake for blooms and report any HABs to the public and the Department of Environmental Conservation.

You can get text alerts when HABs appear on Seneca Lake. To sign up, visit senecalake.org.
