An apparent mechanical failure in a stove sparked a fire at a home on East Lake Road in Romulus.

When Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene at Julie and John Roach’s residence, they shut off the propane supply to the home and then extinguished a small flame on the stove with an extinguisher. Investigators determined that mechanical failure in the stove caused the knob to pop off and ignite a flame as one of the residents was warming up a pan.

Damage was limited to just the stove.

The Ovid Fire Department also responded to the scene.
