Seneca County leaders are moving to keep the District Attorney’s victims’ services program running after the state declined to renew its funding.
DA John Nabinger said his office was one of just 11 programs across New York, including Cayuga County, to lose support from the Office of Victim Services. The county’s Human Resources and Government Operations Committee voted this week to recommend restoring about $70,000 in funding and covering the salary of Victim/Witness Domestic Violence Program Coordinator Alexa Trumble through the county budget.
Nabinger told the Finger Lakes Times that he’s encouraged by the move, calling the position critical to helping victims of domestic violence and other crimes, many of whom are among the county’s most vulnerable residents.
