Seneca Co. IDA Will Request Grant on Behalf of Depot for Rail Upgrades

An overgrown railroad track with fallen leaves, a dirt path, and a building in the background.
An old railroad track, partially overgrown with grass and leaves, runs through a rural area.

Seneca County’s Industrial Development Agency will be the lead applicant for a state Department of Transportation grant that would be used to upgrade the old railroad tracks within the former Seneca County Army Depot in Romulus.

Depot owner Earl Martin wants to make the upgrade in order to connect to Finger Lakes Railway tracks as well as transport steel and other commodities to and from the region.

The Finger Lakes Times reports the Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program grant the IDA would apply for on behalf of Martin provides money for capital investment in rail infrastructure.
