Red Jacket 8th Grader is Headed to Scripps National Spelling Bee

Red Jacket Middle School 8th grader Reed Laursen claimed victory at the Regional Spelling Bee at the Palmyra-Macedon Performing Arts Center.

Reed earned a place in the regional competition after winning the Red Jacket Spelling Bee on March 7th. With this win from last Saturday, he will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, scheduled for May 27-29 in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. There, he will compete for the prestigious Scripps Cup against the nation’s best young spellers.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational competition, drawing students from across the United States and abroad.

In celebrating Reed’s accomplishment, the Manchester-Shortsville School District said, “Reed’s journey to the national stage reflects months of preparation and a deep commitment to academic excellence.”
