Fourteen members, representing all three bureaus of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, were recognized at the 61st annual Ontario County Safety Council Awards Banquet this week for saving lives in 2024. Public safety agencies and community members were also honored for their life-saving actions in critical situations. The event took place at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor.

The evening spotlighted several life-saving actions, including a Life-Saving Award presented to a Corrections Officer who saved an inmate during a suicide attempt, and a Stop DWI Officer of the Year Award for a Deputy who worked tirelessly throughout 2024 to make 22 arrests for impaired/intoxicated driving. Several individuals received Heart Starter Awards for CPR and AED use in emergencies. One Heart Starter award was given for responding to a seizure that led to cardiac arrest, where CPR and AED saved the person’s life. Additionally, several individuals received Letters of Commendation for their exceptional service to our community. These stories reflect the bravery and quick thinking of those honored.

“We are deeply grateful for our officers and the courageous individuals who, when faced with life-threatening situations, did not hesitate to step in and provide critical care,” said Sheriff David Cirencione. “In many of these instances, officers faced danger yet remained unfazed and responded quickly to avert potential tragedy, ultimately changing the outcome and saving lives that could have otherwise been lost. Congratulations to all that were recognized in these well-deserved awards.”
