The future of the Ontario County Landfill could be determined at tonight’s Board of Supervisors meeting, where a motion to close the landfill by the end of 2028 is up for a vote.

The motion, brought forward by the board’s Planning & Environmental Quality Committee, would formalize the county’s plan to cease landfill operations at the county-owned facility in Seneca. The proposed closure aligns with the expiration of the county’s Operations, Management, and Lease Agreement with Casella Waste Services, as well as the landfill’s state permit, both set to end in 2028 when the landfill is expected to reach its capacity of 389 acres.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 in the legislative chambers in Canandaigua.
