One Dead, Two Injured in Canandaigua Road Collision

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday at around 9 a.m. on Canandaigua Road in the Town of Macedon.

According to authorities, the crash happened south of the Magog Road intersection when a northbound vehicle operated by 21-year-old Phillip Trofibio lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, colliding with a vehicle driven by 60-year-old James Howk. Trofibio, Howk and the passenger in Howk’s vehicle, 60-year-old Tamara Newton, were all injured in the collision.

All three were transported to local hospitals. Trofibio was taken to Thompson Hospital for evaluation, while Howk and Newton were transported to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Newton died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Farmington Fire Department, Macedon EMS, and Victor-Farmington EMS.
