Prescription pills are spilled from an orange bottle, often used to illustrate topics like medication, pain, or addiction.

The Newark Police Department will hold a drug takeback day later this month.

Newark Police and Drug Enforcement Administration agents will be at Wegmans for National Drug Take Back Day to let members of the community dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. Liquids, such as cough syrup, need to remain in their original container with the cap tightly secured. Syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted.

Since its inception, National Drug Take Back Day has removed 9,285 tons of medication from circulation.

The event will run from 10:00a-2:00p on October 26.
