A three-mile section of North Road in Canandaigua is now closed to all but local traffic as a major reconstruction project gets underway.
The long-planned project, being carried out by Nardozzi Companies of Geneva, is expected to last approximately 16 months, with weather potentially impacting the schedule. Construction will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., though night and weekend work may be added as needed to stay on track and reduce traffic disruption.
The affected stretch of North Road runs from Tim Hortons near Routes 5 & 20 to just short of Sand Hill Road, ending near East Street. In active work zones, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with signal lights controlling flow. Only local traffic will be permitted through the construction area, and no utility interruptions are expected.
The project involves a full road reconstruction, including new drainage systems, culverts, curbing, and road base. The road itself will be shifted slightly north to make room for a new sidewalk on the south side.
The total cost of the project is estimated between $5.7 million and $6.2 million.
