The cause of a Monday night fire in Ontario County that destroyed a home is under investigation.

A half-dozen fire departments responded to 4274 Reed Road in Richmond at around 7:30 and found the home to be fully engulfed in flames. Damage was so extensive throughout the entire residence that it was deemed a total loss.

The owner, Raphael Cratsley, was the only person inside the residence and was able to safely escape.  The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist but Cratsley was able to make other housing arrangements on his own.

Responding to the fire Monday night were the Richmond, West Bloomfield, Ionia, Livonia, and Hemlock Fire Departments.

The Ontario County Fire Coordinator’s Office is continuing to investigate.
