Police closed a portion of Routes 5 and 20 in Hopewell for several hours early Sunday evening as firefighters battled a structure fire.

Investigators say the sole resident of the trailer near the Miami Hotel, 86-year-old Ronald Edwards was able to escape safely before firefighters from Hopewell, Crystal Beach, and Cheshire arrived. The trailer sustained significant damage and was deemed uninhabitable by code enforcement.

The American Red Cross assisted Edwards with housing.

There’s no word yet on a cause.
