A 19-year-old Canandaigua man was killed this morning after police said he was struck by a pickup truck in Hopewell.

A preliminary investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office determined that 40-year-old Scott Sampson, of Canandaigua, was driving his Dodge Ram west on Routes 5 and 20 shortly after six o’clock when he struck Calif Saunders who was walking in the same lane of travel in the area of Crimson King Drive.  Despite life-saving attempts on scene, Saunders died from his injuries at Thompson Hospital.

The roadway was shut down for more than two hours while the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team investigated the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Canandaigua Emergency Squad and Hopewell Fire.

The crash remains under investigation.
