The Schuyler County Office for the Aging is inviting residents to attend an upcoming presentation designed to help individuals recognize and avoid common scams targeting older adults and their families.
The event, titled “Scams 101,” will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Silver Spoon Café, located at 323 Owego Street in Montour Falls.
The presentation will cover a variety of fraud schemes that continue to affect consumers, including romance scams, government impersonator scams, tech support scams, grandparent scams, identity theft, charity scams, and check scams. Organizers say the program will provide practical tips and information to help attendees identify warning signs and protect themselves from financial fraud.
The session is being presented by the Upstate Elder Abuse Center, a program of Lifespan of Greater Rochester focused on elder abuse prevention and education.
Officials encourage anyone interested in learning more about scam prevention to attend. The event is open to the public.
Those wishing to participate are asked to register in advance by calling the Schuyler County Office for the Aging at (607) 535-7108.
Organizers say education remains one of the most effective tools in preventing fraud and helping residents safeguard their personal information, finances, and loved ones.
