New York State Police have arrested a Montour Falls man following an investigation into two burglaries reported early Monday morning in the village of Montour Falls.
According to State Police, troopers responded around 2:35 a.m. to a reported burglary on Canal Street. Authorities said the suspect fled the area before officers arrived.
Troopers, assisted by a K9 unit, the State Police Unmanned Aircraft System team, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Forensic Identification Unit, searched the area as the investigation got underway. Investigators later identified 27-year-old Bradly Smith as the suspect through surveillance footage and interviews conducted in the area. Police also determined a second burglary had occurred at another property in the village.
Smith was located later that day, interviewed by investigators, and charged with second-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony, second-degree burglary, and petit larceny.
He was transported to the Schuyler County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings.
The New York State Police were assisted by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.
