Yearly Overdoses Continue to Decline in Cayuga County

Overdoses have declined for the third year in a row in Cayuga County.

According to data from the county’s overdose dashboard, 2024 saw 136 suspected overdoses including six fatalities, the lowest on record. This represents a 17% decrease from 2023 which saw 163 suspected overdoses, and a 51% decrease from 2021, the highest year on record for overdoses in Cayuga County, which saw 278 overdoses including 16 fatalities.

2023 was the first year since recording began to see under 200 suspected overdoses recorded in the county.

Fatal overdoses have also been on the decline. 2020, the earliest year on record, saw 21 fatalities, declining in subsequent years, and reaching six in 2024.
