The Auburn Police Department and Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office are taking part in National Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

The sheriff’s office will host a drive-thru drop-off event from 10:00a-2:00p this Saturday at the Fingerlakes Mall’s east side parking lot (by the former JC Penney location). At the same time, Auburn Police will be at Wegmans to collect unwanted or unused medications.

Prescriptions, prescription patches, over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, prescription ointments, and pet medications will all be collected at no cost for proper disposal or destruction. Needles or sharps cannot be accepted at either event.

During last year’s April and October events, the DEA reported taking in over 640 tons of medication nationwide.
