The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is once again sounding the alarm on another scam alert.

The office states individuals claiming to be members of the sheriff’s office are calling people looking to collect fake debts for missing court dates, threatening those that won’t pay with arrest. Scammers are also using emails and invoices, directing people to pay via Venmo.

The sheriff’s office is advising anyone who receives a call to hang up. Those receiving an email should NOT click any links in them or make any payments.

Those who believe they’ve been the victim of a scam or were targeted as potential victims can call the sheriff’s office at 315-253-1222 and press 0 when prompted or email [email protected] for additional help.
