One group seeking to fight addiction has received a boost from local law enforcement.

Through their No Shave fundraiser, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office was able to raise $1,250 for Joey’s Wish Inc. Late last month, Deputy Chad Swartwood presented a check to Ann and Jason Morrell of the nonprofit.

Named after Joseph “Joey” Donald Hess II, who died of an accidental overdose in 2022 at the age of 24, Joey’s Wish Inc seeks to fund research to stop addiction at its source in the brain.
