The rise of illegal marijuana shops across the state has put a burden on law enforcement.

That’s according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck who says New York’s botched rollout of legal pot has created a black market.

Under New York law, marijuana dispensaries are supposed to be licensed by the Office of Cannabis Management, however a delayed roll out of licenses has seen shops operating without them.

Schenck is calling on the state to resolve these issues.
