The Seymour Library has been vandalized.
In a Wednesday Facebook post, the library announced that its rainbow signpost had been damaged. Earlier this year, the library’s StoryWalk panels at Hoopes Park were damaged by vandals.
The library adds that police have been informed, and plans are already underway to replace the wrapping and repair the signpost.
A rainbow flag has been a staple of the library’s front sign, a symbol of belonging and inclusiveness, since 2020, when a knitted wrapping was donated to the library from the Schwinfurth Art Center. After the first wrapping had faded, a second one was hand-crocheted by Auburn native Lucy Thomas.
The library said it will “remain steadfast in our mission to provide a welcoming space for all who come through our doors” and continue to “share stories, create spaces for learning, and stand as a place of inclusivity and connection.”
