One Auburn school has announced new pick-up and drop-off procedures to improve student safety.
K-3 students at Seward Elementary will need to be accompanied to their entrances, meaning drivers will need to use the new parking lot that was created as part of the school’s Capital Improvement Project. Kindergartners will now use entrance A, the same entrance as first-graders, instead of the main entrance. Second and third-graders will use entrance B.
Fourth through sixth graders do not need to be escorted into the building. They can be dropped off in the new drop-off area and use entrance C.
The main entrance will continue to be used for school buses.
The school district has created an instructional video on how to use the new parking lot and loop.
Additionally, parking is no longer allowed on both sides of Metcalf Drive in front of the school from 7:00-9:00a and 2:00-4:00p on school days and a four-way stop has been added at the intersection of Metcalf Drive and Mary Street.
Discussions on improving safety at the school began in 2023 after a child was struck by a car while crossing the street in front of the building.
