The City of Auburn has declared a historic Auburn building abandoned and is seeking to take possession of it.

According to a notice posted on the doors of the Schines Theatre, Auburn Code Enforcement has determined the building is legally abandoned per state property laws as of July 24.

The city will commence proceedings in Cayuga County Supreme Court to acquire possession of the 16 South Street property.

Completed in 1938, the 2,000-seat Art Deco theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
