Police: Weedsport Man Struck & Killed by Train in Onondaga County

A Weedsport man is dead after being struck by a train in Onondaga County on Wednesday.

According to State Police, troopers responded to CSX railroad tracks near Newport Road and Warners in the Town of Van Buren at approximately 4:47p for the report of a man who was injured after being struck by a train.

48-year-old Matthew Jones was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Jones had been reported missing from the Auburn area earlier in the day.

While police say there appear to be no signs of foul play, they are continuing their investigation into the incident.
