One local fire department is hoping to increase its membership and allow the community to see what its volunteers do.

The Owasco Fire Department will hold its annual open house on Sunday. This year, the family-friendly event will focus on fire safety and recruitment.

Families can enjoy cider and doughnuts while viewing the equipment and vehicles volunteers use to keep town residents safe. There will also be an automotive extrication demonstration.

Like many volunteer departments in New York State, the Owasco Fire Department is actively seeking to add new members to its ranks. Members of the department will be on hand to answer any questions potential recruits may have and assist with the application process.

The open house will run from 10:00a-1:00p at Owasco Fire Department Station 1 (7174 Owasco Rd).
