Overdoses Continue Decline in Cayuga County

Nine suspected overdoses were reported last month in Cayuga County.

According to data from the county health department, none of the overdoses were fatal. While Narcan was used in 22.2% of cases, none are believed to have involved opioids.

Overdoses have been on the decline in Cayuga County. So far in 2024, the county has seen 119 suspected overdoses, five of which were fatal. During the same time in 2023, the county saw 139 overdoses, including six fatalities.

The county’s overdose dashboard has data going back to 2020. So far, 2023 saw the lowest number of overdoses with 163 reported while 2021 saw the highest with 278.
