OSHA Fines Contractor for Fatal Workplace Accident in Auburn

The federal investigation into a fatal workplace accident in Auburn last Fall is complete.

An employee of Fabsite Industries died on Nov. 1 while using a STIHL Cut-Off Saw to cut granite curbs at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art.  According to the OSHA investigation, the saw kicked back, causing fatal neck and chest injuries to the unidentified worker.

Fabsite, based in Phoenix, NY, paid a fine of $4,469 for failing to provide a safe workplace and a separate $2,553 fine for exposing workers to respirable crystalline silica at the worksite.
