One person was killed in a two-car accident that happened Thursday night in Cayuga County.

An initial sheriff’s department investigation showed that an SUV traveling north on State Route 34 in Brutus crossed into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming pickup truck. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger from that vehicle was taken to Upstate Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the pickup were not injured.

Deputies say weather conditions at the time of the accident, which was around 7:13 p.m., were a contributing factor.

The name of the person who passed away is being withheld pending family notifications.
